Question 1

Is it safe to travel in Africa?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Jan's travellers are met at every destination, every flight and every transfer, so there is somebody with them the whole way through. Jan also plans around safety: accommodation in the right neighbourhoods, tours arranged in advance, and plain advice before departure. As with travel anywhere, awareness is your best companion, and Jan makes sure you have it before you go.

Question 2

How do I get to Africa from Australia?

Accepted Answer

One flight from Perth or Sydney and you're there. Jan can assist with flight arrangements as part of planning your safari.

Question 3

How much does an African safari cost?

Accepted Answer

It depends on which countries you visit, the season you travel, the style of camp or lodge, and how long you stay. Most safaris are all-inclusive, so accommodation, meals, game drives and transfers are wrapped into one price. Gratuities should be budgeted too. Every itinerary Jan builds is shaped around your budget and the season's offerings, and the conversation starts with what you want to experience, not what you want to spend.

Question 4

When is the best time to go on safari?

Accepted Answer

There is always a good time to be somewhere in Africa. For Southern Africa, May to September is the sweet spot. East Africa works around its seasons, and the great migration moves in a year-round circle, so there is a right place to see it in almost any month. Part of Jan's job is matching where you go to when you can travel.

Question 5

How far ahead should we book an African safari?

Accepted Answer

Ideally around twelve months ahead, because the best camps are small and fill early. Four months out is the practical minimum, and shorter timelines are sometimes possible, so it is always worth asking.

Question 6

Will we be travelling in a big group?

Accepted Answer

No. Jan plans private, tailor-made journeys built around your itinerary, your pace and your party. On safari you share game drives with a small number of other guests at your camp, in the company of professional guides.

Question 7

Do I need vaccinations or a visa for an African safari?

Accepted Answer

Jan advises on visas for every country in your itinerary, and travellers receive a packing list and checklist before departure. For vaccinations, see your doctor early, as some need lead time. Jan sends a reminder about three months before travel.

Question 8

Do I need travel insurance for an African safari?

Accepted Answer

Yes, travel insurance is a requirement for all of Jan's journeys. Some countries include emergency medical evacuation cover as part of entry, and where that applies Jan builds it into the itinerary and explains what is covered. Policy wording matters, and Jan will flag what to look for.
